20 Movie Sequels That Were JUST Confirmed

In 2022, Michael Mann published a novel sequel to his legendary 1995 crime thriller Heat, and by 2023 the filmmaker confirmed that he was partnering with Warner Bros. on a film adaptation.

However, progress has been slow over the last few years despite Mann's part-prequel, part-sequel novel receiving strong acclaim.

Numerous actors have been linked to key roles, including Adam Driver, Austin Butler, Ana de Armas, Jeremy Allen White, and Channing Tatum, but until recently little concrete was locked in.

Once Warner Bros. deemed Heat 2 too expensive to produce, it was picked up by Amazon, soon after which Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio were said to be leading the film, with Driver, Butler, and Bradley Cooper still in talks for roles.

Mann has received a $150 million budget for the film and shooting is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles in 2026 for a 2027 release. If this one lives up to the quality of the source material, it's going to be an absolute banger.
