9. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2
Despite how much of a critical, commercial, and Oscar-winning success Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was, hype surrounding a potential sequel has been curiously muted.
Muted enough, in fact, that you might not even realise the currently unnamed follow-up is already in production and eyeing an October 7, 2022 release date.
Little is known about the plot to date beyond an extended focus on the romance between Miles (Shameik Moore) and Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld), as well as setting up a Gwen Stacy solo film.
But character design work has been going on since late 2019 and the script is currently being completed by writers David Callaham, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller. Joaquim Dos Santos (Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra) will direct.
Though it wouldn't surprise anyone if Spider-Verse 2 slides to early 2023 given the tight production window, for now Sony seems committed to next year.
