Though the fourth Insidious film, 2018's The Last Key, was said to be the final entry into the hit horror franchise, Blumhouse unsurprisingly reconsidered when it ended up the highest-grossing film of the series.

Insidious 5 has been whispered about for a little while, and last October it was confirmed that a new sequel is soon due to go into production, with franchise star Patrick Wilson also set to make his directing debut.

The plot will reportedly focus on an older Dalton (Ty Simpkins) as he heads off to college.

Considering that Wilson has collaborated with James Wan numerous times on the Insidious and Conjuring movies, he's got as good a chance as anyone of making a stellar horror filmmaking debut.

There's no set-in-stone release date yet, but Blumhouse has committed to a 2022 bow.
