It is absolutely reasonable to second-guess every single project announced by Kevin Smith, considering how many of them have languished in development hell for years and years.

But Smith's white whale is inarguably Clerks III, a project he has talked-up numerous times over the years, though has largely been considered unlikely due to Randall actor Jeff Anderson's refusal to commit.

But in October 2019, Smith confirmed that Anderson had finally agreed to star in Clerks III alongside Brian O'Halloran, with the project intended to "conclude" the Clerks saga. The plot will revolve around Randall recovering from a heart attack, mirroring Smith's own 2018 health scare.

While nothing is ever guaranteed where Smith is concerned, he completed his first draft of the script back in January, and considering how quickly he's generally able to shoot and turn movies around, a 2022 drop seems believable enough.
