20 Film & TV Remakes You Didn't Know Were Coming

1. The Mist

This list began with Mike Flanagan's new take on The Exorcist, and will now be book-ended by yet another remake from the man. The Venn diagram of Mike Flanagan projects and Stephen King works has overlapped before, and will do so again.

2019's Doctor Sleep and 2024's The Life of Chuck will be joined in this by 2026's Carrie reboot, as well as Flanagan's take on The Mist. The novel was originally released in 1980, and the 2007 adaptation from Frank Darabont, starring Thomas Jane, has become infamous for one of the bleakest film endings of all time.

There is a constant looming danger over reboots such as these, whereby there has to be a reason for doing it. Complete shot for shot clones largely feel pointless, which is something that Flanagan himself has already taken time to address.

Simply put, this will be taken in a much different direction from the 2007 film, as the differences begin "from page 1". Since Darabont's ending was a huge departure from that of the books, it's safe to say audiences won't have to see anyone needlessly kill their own son again, but there is certain to be other horrors to endure all the same.
