20 Movie Villains Who Were Unbelievably Petty
9. Cletus Kasady - Venom: Let There Be Carnage
It's not exactly uncommon for a movie villain to blame everything that goes wrong on one thing the hero did, and this is exactly how Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson) came to hate Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock. Kasady blamed the journalist entirely and without question for his receiving of the death penalty.
What Cletus asked of Eddie, even before he became Carnage, was to print a message to Shriek (Naomie Harris) in his next article, but when Venom noticed a pretty damning clue as to where certain missing victims' bodies were hidden, Brock instead uncovered Cletus' biggest secret, which earned him death.
While you could understand some sort of rage towards Eddie, it wasn't like he really did anything wrong. Cletus literally drew where he hid the bodies on his cell wall, and it's a little unreasonable not to expect a journalist to both spot it and report it.
On top of that, as Venom himself pointed out to Eddie, Cletus' fate was not Eddie's fault. He may have put the final nail in the coffin, so to speak, but it was Cletus who was, you know, a horrific serial killer without remorse. And yet, all of Kasady's problems were put at Eddie's door because he saw what the killer had put on his wall for all to see.
