20 Movies Released In 2015 Guaranteed To Win Awards

14. Ferryman

Release date: Some time this year (in Hong Kong). What's it about? After delivering his martial art house movie The Grandmaster, Wong Kar Wai returns to more familiar subject matter with his adaptation of The Ferryman, another romance with a male protagonist whom all women are crazy about (perhaps in a similar vein to Tony Leung's character in 2046), in which matters of the heart come to the fore. What makes it award-worthy? Wong Kar Wai films unrequited and elicit love affairs better than anyone else, as anyone who has seen In The Mood For Love, Chungking Express and Days Of Being Wild can attest to. While The Ferryman isn't scheduled for release until later in the year - and only in Hong Kong - you can expect to see it at the Hong Kong film festival and with a bit of luck in independent cinemas in the West before the end of the year.
