13. Flashmob
Release date: To be announced. What's it about? Like Terrence Malick, Austrian-born director Michael Haneke is notorious for closely guarding the details of his movies before they're released, and Flashmob is no exception. Following a group of characters connected via the internet and brought together by the titular flashmob, little else is known although an exploration of the relationship between real and virtual reality is to be expected. What makes it award-worthy? Put simply, Haneke is yet to make a bad film, and coming after an Oscar win for Amour and before that a Palme d'Or win for The White Ribbon he could well be on something of an award-winning roll. There really are only a handful of contemporary directors operating at Haneke's level, and while it's impossible to say with certainty at this stage how well Flashmob will be received, past form suggests this is definitely one to watch out for.
