11. The Kidnapping Of Edgardo Mortara - Oscar Isaac
Release Date: TBA
Steven Spielberg's long-gestating adaptation of David Kertzer's highly acclaimed 1997 novel revolves around the removal of a young Jewish boy from his family in 1858 Italy after the Papal State got word that he had been baptised as a baby (and strictly forbade Catholics being raised by Jews or other faiths).
Isaac's role isn't yet known, but he will play opposite recent Spieleberg favourite Mark Rylance, and the dramatic subject matter could easily make this an awards play for Isaac. Honestly, it's pretty surprising Isaac hasn't been nominated for a little gold guy yet (even his name's Oscar, for Christ's sake).
Regardless of what his part entails, expect acting fireworks.
