20 Movies That Prove 2022 Is The Best Year For Horror EVER

12. Hatching

Pearl Mia Goth
IFC Midnight

Finnish body horror film Hatching is an unwieldy blend of f**ked-up fairytale and contemporary family satire, and one that's positively unafraid to go to some deeply gnarly and unpleasant places.

Centered around a 12-year-old girl (Siiri Solalinna) who finds and nurtures a mysterious egg she discovers in the woods outside her home, Hatching speedily sets up a compelling enigma before peeling back the expectation-defying layers.

Fans of body horror will get plenty to savour in the movie's visceral third act, while lead actress Siiri Solalinna is perfect as a young girl desperate to escape the confines of her overbearing mother (Sophia Heikkilä).

If you've got a strong stomach, make sure you don't miss this one.
