20. Venom

Although the Spider-Man franchise is healthier than it's ever been, Sony still have a lot to prove with their upcoming Venom spinoff. The movie is once again in association with Marvel Entertainment, but Sony themselves are taking the creative lead, attempting to build a universe that doesn't need their leading character to survive.

Opting for a smaller budget but an edgier angle, the R-rated movie's initial trailers haven't blown audiences away, but they do look promising. The idea of seeing a true portrayal of Venom on the big screen is obviously tantalising in and of itself, but the talent attempting to bring the dream to life, including director Ruben Fleischer and a star-studded cast comprised of Tom Hardy, the perennially-underused Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed, is awarding the spinoff with a pedigree that many didn't expect.

Venom is perhaps the 2018 blockbuster with the most to gain once it hits theatres, hopefully being able to prove once and for all that Sony have what it takes to do the character justice.
