Look, it's no secret that the DCEU is in bad shape. Justice League's embarrassing box-office numbers have resulted in a studio-wide change in approach to the superhero franchise, with executives currently trying to figure out how they can turn the sinking ship around.

Consequently, it's easy to look at the upcoming Aquaman, which was already in production before this switch up was in full effect, with a little bit of skepticism. That's a mistake though, as if anything, the flick is shaping up to be far more in the vein of Wonder Woman than the studio's much-maligned team up.

James Wan, although primarily known for his horror efforts, is an incredible talent, and it's clear that him and his team are attempting to craft a superhero movie that makes the most of its title character's unusual powers.

Initial reactions coming from the studio have been positive too (though they would say that, wouldn't they?), which should reignite some confidence in the DCEU's latest effort.
