20 Movies That Will Win Oscars In 2023
13. The Whale
Though it seems likely that the tricky subject matter and low-key execution of Darren Aronofsky's The Whale will prevent it from receiving many nominations this year, there are two categories in particular where it feels primed for success.
First and foremost, Brendan Fraser's performance has received near-universal praise, which in conjunction with the general public's love of Fraser and the Academy's fondness for comeback narratives, makes him a fierce contender for the Best Actor prize alongside Elvis' Austin Butler.
But it's the Best Makeup and Hairstyling category where The Whale seems best-primed for victory - Fraser's astonishing transformation doesn't appear to have any hugely viable competition as of yet.
