20 Movies That Will Win Oscars In 2023

Though Sam Mendes' new drama Empire of Light has received somewhat underwhelming critical notices so far, enough that it could actually fail to get nominated in major categories, even the film's detractors have had nothing but praise for the cinematography courtesy of legendary DP Roger Deakins.

No matter the movie's divisive narrative, it's basically a lock to be nominated for Best Cinematography, and given Deakins' standing in the industry, he could very well take it all the way and score his third Oscar win in just five years.

Given that it took Deakins 13 unsuccessful nominations to score his first win, it'd certainly be ironic if he nabbed three wins on three consecutive nominations - and it actually seems pretty damn likely.
