20 Movies Which Could Win Oscars In 2022
19. Don't Look Up
Netflix seeks to bolster its prestige movie cachet with Don't Look Up, the latest politically-themed comedy from Adam McKay (The Big Short, Vice), starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence as a pair of astronomers who try to warn Earth of an impending, planet-destroying asteroid.
The Academy evidently loves McKay's movies with The Big Short and Vice receiving 13 nods between them, though each film only managed to translate that into a solitary Oscar win a-piece.
But the literally titanic star power behind this thing will be sure catnip for Oscar voters, such that DiCaprio and Lawrence are already strong lead acting contenders.
It's also possible there's some meaty supporting parts for the incredible ensemble, including Cate Blancett, Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, Timothee Chalamet, Chris Evans, Mark Rylance, and many more.
McKay's film would need to be a severe misfire not to land at least a Best Original Screenplay nod, which it could very well win, but if it's something truly special, this could easily end up Netflix's first ever Best Picture success.
