20 Movies Which Could Win Oscars In 2022
14. In The Heights
In the musical stakes, West Side Story will face strong opposition from In the Heights, adapted from Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegría Hudes' Tony-winning musical of the same name.
Warner Bros. was evidently confident enough in the film to screen it almost two months early for select critics, who have effusively praised its crowd-pleasing musical stylings, technical exactitude, and strong performances.
With the 10-film Best Picture slate this year, there's a very strong possibility that In the Heights ends up the year's blockbuster Best Picture nominee.
It's also likely to score nods if not wins for Best Costume Design, Production Design, Sound, Film Editing, Cinematography, and perhaps Original Song for its single new track, "Home All Summer."
Early reviews have also singled out lead actor Anthony Ramos as a possible Oscar contender, so he's worth keeping in mind.
