20 Movies Which Could Win Oscars In 2022
13. The Tragedy Of Macbeth
Shakespeare adaptations have performed less-well with the Academy than one might expect, though given that The Tragedy of Macbeth is being written and directed by Joel Coen, and will star Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand as Lord and Lady Macbeth respectively, this is no garden variety adaptation of the Bard's work.
Above all else, Washington is a towering contender for Best Actor, and if he went on to win the award he would become tied with Jack Nicholson, Daniel-Day Lewis, and Walter Brennan for the most acting Oscars won by a man (Kathryn Hepburn leads the pack overall with four Oscars to her name).
It's certainly possible that McDormand also scoops a record-tying fourth Best Actress Oscar, though given that she's won the award twice in the last three years, the Academy will more likely want to spread the wealth.
But the Coens are an Oscar-friendly bunch, so the film is also a strong contender for Best Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, and Production Design.
