Noah Baumbach takes a sharp left-turn into black comedy-horror for his new film White Noise, an adaptation of Don DeLillo's 1985 National Book Award-winning novel.

Long considered "unfilmable," the story revolves around Jack Gladney (Adam Driver), a professor of Hitler studies - yes, you read that right - whose life is thrown into a tailspin after a train crash which spills chemical waste all over his town.

Baumbach and DeLillo are certainly an interesting pairing, and while there are unsubstantiated reports of the film going wildly over-budget and over-schedule, it's still impossible not to be intrigued by a film that appears to be swinging this hard for the fences.

Beyond Driver, the cast includes Greta Gerwig, André Benjamin, Alessandro Nivola, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Don Cheadle.

White Noise releases later this year.
