6. "What Have I Done?" - Thinner

Stephen King Thinner Ending
Paramount Pictures

Stephen King may be known as the king of horror, but that doesn't change the fact there are as many bad adaptations of his work as there are good. Unfortunately, Thinner definitely earns its place as one of the worst.

Now, the idea of an arrogant man being cursed to gradually wither away sounds on brand for King. However, this dire adaptation is thin on plot, characterisation, and entertainment.

And yet, the last five minutes knocks it out of the park. After Billy mixes his cursed blood with a pie, he transfers the spell to anyone who consumes it. Knowing his wife is cheating on him with his friend Mike, Billy encourages her to eat it. Billy finds himself rejuvenated the following morning, while his traitorous wife has been reduced to a decayed husk.

Heading downstairs, Billy is heartbroken when his daughter reveals she ate the same pie for breakfast. She then scoops out another piece, with Billy helpless to save her.

Just when things are at their emotional peak, Mike comes knocking at the door. Billy invites him in for pie, completing his revenge. With his daughter destined to die, it's heavily implied Billy will consume the cursed dessert as well, since he has nothing else to live for.

Sure, Thinner is disjointed and goofy as hell, but this ending captures the bleak terror the rest of the story was missing.
