20 Perfect Scenes In God-Awful Horror Movies

3. Human Mannequin - House Of Wax

House of Wax Wade
Warner Bros. PIctures

The House of Wax remake is dripping in mediocrity to the point where the titular wax figures seem more lifelike than the characters. Jaume Colle-Serra's directorial debut takes a halfway decent premise and buries it under a mountain of clichés, plotholes, and bad acting.

If it wasn't for one particular scene, House of Wax would've been a total waste. One of the characters, Dalton, is roaming around the wax museum when he stumbles upon his buddy, Wade, who was kidnapped earlier. After touching Wade's face, Dalton realises he's completely paralysed, due to being coated in boiling wax.

Dalton tries to free Wade, assuming the wax is an external layer. When Dalton inadvertently peels his friend's cheek off, he realises the wax is now a part of Wade's body. Panicked, Dalton keeps scooping off wax, exposing more and more of Wade's muscle tissue. Though Wade barely makes a sound, a single tear comes out of his eye, emphasising that he's in incomprehensible pain but unable to show it.

When one of the villains lops off Wade's jaw moments later, it was a relief since he was finally free from his suffering.
