20 Perfect Scenes In God-Awful Horror Movies

4. Just Like The Game - Doom

It's infuriating when video game adaptations don't respect the source material.

And few films encapsulate this notion more than 2005's Doom. Despite the fact id Software's magnum opus centres around a marine fighting the legions of Hell, this adaption removed the supernatural angle entirely, having our hero fighting human mutants instead of demons.

As such, it sounds like the filmmakers didn't care for the influential shooter whatsoever. And yet, there's one scene that recreates the hellish blast-a-thon flawlessly.

During the climax, John Grimm (Karl Urban) becomes a one-man army, shooting through an endless horde of fiends to reach his destination. What makes this scene stand out is how it's shot from John's point-of-view, recreating the first-person perspective of the games.

The camera moves in a fluid manner, mimicking the way players navigate in a first-person shooter. While John rampages through zombies, mutants, and Pinkies with iconic weapons like the assault rifle and the chainsaw, it's the only time the film captures the spirit of Doom.

If the entire film was shot like this a la Hardcore Henry, Doom could've been something special.
