20 Predictions For 2019's Rotten Tomatoes Scores
14. Aladdin (48%)
Predicted Critical Consensus: "Guy Ritchie's Aladdin is well-cast and fleetingly entertaining, but often undone by Guy Ritchie's stylistic excesses."
The first images of the live-action Aladdin movie were...not good, and though Entertainment Weekly routinely releases hilariously ugly photoshoots for movies that actually end up pretty good, it's just the first of several reasons to feel a bit iffy about the film.
For one, Ritchie is a shockingly inconsistent filmmaker, with five critically Fresh and four critically Rotten movies to his name, so he's hardly churning out steady hits.
Plus, the screenplay was penned by Ritchie himself and frequent Tim Burton collaborator John August (Big Fish, Dark Shadows), who together make this a total wild card of a movie.
And finally, there's the Will Smith issue - those first-look pictures of Smith as the Genie aren't at all encouraging, and though he will reportedly appear in blue CGI form for most of the film, there's every possibility that ends up even worse.
Keep your expectations low for this one and be pleasantly surprised if it's actually any good.
