20 Predictions For 2019's Rotten Tomatoes Scores

15. Pokémon: Detective Pikachu (72%)

Detective Pikachu
Warner Bros.

Predicted Critical Consensus: "Powered by Ryan Reynolds' motormouth performance and stunning visual effects, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu is a major step up for video game adaptations."

The first trailer for Detective Pikachu presented a strong sell for a movie that could go wrong so, so easily.

Though Ryan Reynolds' voice is a little jarring - even though that's basically the point - there's the overwhelming feeling that this is a love letter to Pokémon as much as it is a corporate exercise in brand extension.

The jury's still out on exactly how much the movie will focus on humans compared to Pokémon, but clearly no expense has been spared bringing the beloved creatures to the big screen.

If it doesn't end up the best-reviewed video game movie of all time - topping Rampage's modest 52% - it'd be absolutely shocking, and it's reasonable to expect it to soar much higher than that.
