Predicted Critical Consensus: "A highly affecting adaptation of Saroo Brierley's remarkable true-life tale, Lion is propelled forward by a terrific Dev Patel, game supporting cast and strong work from Garth Davis in his feature directorial debut."
Dev Patel has been coming into his own as an actor over the last few years, and though a feature debut is always a gamble, Davis has a ton of TV experience with the highly-acclaimed show Top of the Lake, so there's little to be worried about there.
Screenwriter Luke Davies (Life) has yet to prove himself, but a cast also including Nicole Kidman, Rooney Mara and David Wenham have the potential to milk every last drop of power out of this terrific story. It'll probably fall short of major plaudits, but could easily pick up a nod or two.
