20 Recent Horror Movies WAY Better Than Expected

19. Final Destination Bloodlines

It was easy to look at Final Destination Bloodlines as a rather desperate attempt to resurrect a horror franchise well past its expiration date, and even accepting the series' popularity, how many of its entries are actually genuinely good?

Nobody would've been surprised if Bloodlines was another forgettable legacy sequel that simply lacked the sauce to justify its own existence, and the rather middling trailers didn't exactly persuade otherwise.

But what a pleasant surprise this was - Bloodlines was a smart, well-crafted belated sequel which understood the essence of Final Destination's popularity while introducing some fun new wrinkles.

The death scenes were brutal, the characters were memorable, and courtesy of an affecting appearance from the late, great Tony Todd, it even managed to expand Final Destination's mythology in a meaningful way.

Bloodlines wasn't just a surprisingly good follow-up, though - it also became the best-reviewed and most financially successful Final Destination movie by a country mile.
