Though officially a legacy sequel to the original Naked Gun trilogy, let's be real - this is really a remake-slash-reboot that just about exists within the same scarcely defined chronology of its predecessors.
But The Naked Gun franchise is original lead Leslie Nielsen and his unique deadpan charms, such that the prospect of trying to replicate the same tone with a new actor just seemed immensely foolish.
Various iterations of a Naked Gun remake have been in the works over the years - including one starring Ed Helms which almost got made - and even once Liam Neeson was cast as Frank Drebin Jr., there was immense skepticism surrounding the project.
Yet this is a rare quasi-remake that nobody asked for and yet actually delivered the goods - between on-point performances from Neeson and Pamela Anderson and a hilariously unhinged script, The Naked Gun 2025 truly made it feel like the spoof genre somehow still has some juice left in it.
