20 Recent Movies That Ruined INCREDIBLE Plots

The previous Tron film, 2010's Tron: Legacy, concluded by teasing that its sequel would focus on programs en masse escaping from the Grid into the "real world," and when it finally released 15 years later, Tron: Ares did at least carry that concept forward.

Though the prospect of seeing programs wreak havoc in our physical reality with all of the Grid's high-tech weapons and vehicles sounds awesome on paper, it's the execution where Ares came unstuck.

For one, Ares abandoned Legacy's protagonists Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) and Quorra (Olivia Wilde) to focus on a new lead character, Ares, ill-advisedly played by the controversy magnet - to be kind - Jared Leto.

Elsewhere none of the other new characters roused much interest, director Joachim Rønning was a middling substitute for Legacy's Joseph Kosinski, and even Nine Inch Nails' musical score was a touch underwhelming.

Ares' elemental idea, of programs waging war outside of the Grid, was magnificent, but everything else fell far short of the mark. 

And with its colossal box office failure, we likely won't get another Tron movie for decades, if ever.
