20 Rotten Tomatoes Predictions For 2023's Biggest Movies
8. Oppenheimer (87%)
Christopher Nolan is about as consistent as blockbuster directors come, and though not all of his movies have garnered quite the acclaim of, say, The Dark Knight or Inception, there's a clear respect for his ingenuity and commitment to practical filmmaking.
Oppenheimer marks an unexpected shift into biopic territory for Nolan, even though he's still spent $100 million to assemble one of the most star-studded casts ever and deliver a sensory experience worthy of an IMAX ticket.
Oppenheimer is probably Nolan's best shot yet at being taken seriously by the Academy, given the "worthinesss" of the material and how utterly gorgeous that first teaser trailed looked - all the more so if you've seen it in IMAX.
For anyone frustrated with the increasingly knotted, over-plotted narratives of films like Interstellar and especially Tenet, Oppenheimer should be a more sober character study, albeit one still suffused with Nolan's signature style.
Expect strong acclaim, and if Nolan's script and Cillian Murphy's performance are good enough, it could go even higher than 87%.
