The MCU slate is such that theres never really any genuine concern over the fates of the headline acts, which leaves the secondary characters in a much more perilous position. The first real proof came in 2012, when the Avengers were forced to say goodbye to a character whod grown in stature from his first appearance in Iron Man to the point where his demise was keenly felt. Despite being an original MCU creation, Agent Coulson proved popular enough to warrant a feature role in two Marvel One Shots, a recurring role in the more recent comic books and an unlikely gig helming TVs Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Pretty impressive for a dead guy. Son of Couls death at the hands of Loki in The Avengers galvanized the team ahead of their battle with the Chitauri and led many a viewer to dubiously claim they had something in their eye all of a sudden.
