Theres definitely something of the soulful about Steve Rogers, the one stalwart of Earths Mightiest Heroes who simply cant catch a break. 2011s Captain America: The First Avenger was a WWII period piece for the most part but bookended by scenes taking place in the present day. After making the characteristically noble decision to crash Johann Schmidts aircraft in the Arctic rather than put civilian lives at risk, Rogers awakens to a radio broadcast tipping him off that all is not as it seems. A mad dash through a S.H.I.E.L.D. facility and into the streets of New York ends with a bemused Cap taking in modern day Times Square as Nick Fury arrives on the scene to inform him 70 years have elapsed. Its hard not to feel for the guy when Rogers responds to Fury asking if he will be okay by lamenting, Yeah, I just... I had a date.
