Luke Skywalker's journey from farm boy to key member of the Rebel Alliance has continued to capture the imaginations of more than three generations of viewers ever Star Wars was released in 1977. When we first meet Luke, he's just a kid living a boring life, dreaming about facing off against the evil Empire - that is, until he meets Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and he's suddenly whisked off to a life of excitement across the galaxy. Star Wars tells a relatively simple story of good versus evil, but George Lucas's epic space battles and colourful characters made it a classic. And having travelled to the ominous, moon-sized space station that is the Death Star for a large part of the movie, there was arguably no more satisfying moment - especially for those children in the audience - as the one where Luke, guided by the Force, sends a couple of torpedos into the reactor and blows the thing to smithereens.
