20 Sci-Fi Movies EVERY Film Fan Should Have Seen

10. Blade Runner

Blade Runner
Warner Bros.

From a pure nerdy level of enjoyment, Blade Runner has everything you could want from a science fiction film: Impossibly advanced technology, unnerving futurescape and Harrison Ford kicking ass. But the truth is that the film has far more going for it than just what we see on the surface.

Set in a dystopic future Los Angeles (in 2019 would you believe?!) where synthetic humans (a.k.a. replicants) are a thing and six of them only go and bloody escape, the film charts Ford's rugged and reluctant cop Deckard as he's tasked to hunt them down.

With its intricately-plotted story and retrofitted production, Blade Runner is the very best that neo-noir cinema has to offer, compiling multiple genres and styles (both old and new) to create something far more grandiose - and it was this defiant, cutting-edge approach that paved the way for films like Total Recall to follow.

Another of the "we're not ready for you" brand of sci-films, Blade Runner was something of a divisive film upon its release that polarised critics and struggled at the box office before ultimately overcoming all of that noise to take its rightful place among the the greatest films of all time.
