20 Sci-Fi Movies EVERY Film Fan Should Have Seen
8. Back To The Future
Time travel is one of the very foundations upon which the science fiction genre is built and you won't find a better example of a time travel film than Back To The Future. Other great films - even arguably better ones - have used or made reference to the concept, but Back To The Future is time-travel; it lives and breathes it, and in doing so, shows everyone exactly how to effortlessly weave such a huge concept into an engaging narrative.
The film that turned Michael J. Fox into a household name, it follows Marty McFly as he accidentally ends up travelling back in time by 30 years and inadvertently becomes the object of his young mother's affections, resulting in a paradox that begins erasing him from existence. And thus, it's up to him, Christopher Lloyd's brilliantly eccentric Doc Brown and their DeLorean time machine to fix history and return him to the future.
If you haven't watched it, you've probably been met with a few "You haven't seen Back To The Future?" throughout your life thus far, and if you have, then you're probably the person asking others that question, simply because it's unfathomable that somebody hasn't experienced this incredible adventure at least once.
Yes, this time-traveling classic is, quite simply, timeless.
