20 Sci-Fi Movies EVERY Film Fan Should Have Seen

Many of the best sci-fi films force you to think outside the box and question your own reality - and by extension, the meaning of life itself - and one of the finest examples of that is the Wachowskis' cyberpunk-infused action flick The Matrix.

Set in a dystopian future (yes, another one) that basically sees technologically advanced machines trap humans inside a simulated reality (The Matrix) so that they can harvest their bodies for energy, it's up to hacker-turned-action hero Neo to take the fight to the oppressive machines and give humanity a hope in hell of winning.

The truth is that The Matrix is so many things all at once that if we were to devote enough time to each reason as to why you absolutely should have seen it by now, we'd need to write a whole article just about it, so let's just sum up what made it so must-see.

On the surface, it's a highly-imaginative action flick that contains one of the most iconic fight scenes in film history (bullet-time, anyone?), but below it, it's a thought-provoking classic that offers a look into the human psyche as the protagonist's will is tested beyond comprehension.

Also part of that prestigious "you haven't seen that?!" club, The Matrix is considered the cream of the creepy crop and, for many, it sits alone atop the best films in the genre - and it's certainly among the best that cyberpunk itself has to offer.
