14. 10 Rillington Place (1971)
Based around the real life crimes committed by British serial killer John Christie, 10 Rillington Place is a great and underrated movie that has fallen into obscurity; chances are that even if you're a major film buff, this one somehow slipped under your radar. The fact that Richard Fleischer's film is rarely mentioned feels like something of a misdemeanour, then, as this is one of the more interesting serial killer pictures to have emerged in the years before film-goers became obsessed with the genre in the '90s. Starring Richard Attenborough and John Hurt, 10 Rillington Place has a real sense of time and place about it, as Attenborough - playing Christie - offers up a disturbing (and somewhat hammy) vision of the infamous serial killer who murdered eight women throughout the '40s and '50s. This is a grim film, lacking in much depth, but still wholly gripping nonetheless.
