20 Serial Killer Movies You Must See Before You Die

15. Death Proof (2007)

Quentin Tarantino's underrated deconstruction of the slasher/giallo movie makes for an unconventional cinematic ride, to say the least. Starring Kurt Russell as the deranged Stuntman Mike, a pervert who uses his "death proof" muscle car to murder girls, it's a movie of two halves. The first hones in on an unfortunate group of beautiful young woman who are targeted by Stuntman Mike and pay the price with their lives; the second turns the table on things, as Mike ends up at the mercy of another, tougher group of ladies who resist his advances and end up wreaking bloody revenge. Death Proof was originally criticized for its overtly talky nature, but in retrospect it feels like one of Tarantino's more interesting films - a feminist yarn that has fun paying homage to '70s serial killer flicks. It also features one of cinema's great car chases in its final reel, which was shot without the use of CGI and is nail-biting to watch from start to finish.
