20 Sports Documentaries You Must See Before You Die

13. Free Solo

Although Free Solo is a genuinely fantastic documentary about famous free solo climber, Alex Honnold, and his attempt to climb the El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, it's important to preface this particular entry with this strong piece of advice. If you're afraid of heights in any shape or form, then this film is not for you as it will trigger serious levels of anxiety.

However, if you're looking for a thrilling documentary that will keep you on the edge of your seat for 100 minutes, then this is a fine choice for exactly what you're looking for. Directing duo, Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, do a brilliant job of documenting the entire process of the incredible challenge in front Honnold and all the emotions and stress that comes with attempting something like this.

Although what Honnold is doing is more than enough to have an audience on the edge of their seats, Marco Beltrami's epic score only makes these death-defying scenes more intense. The American composer does a brilliant job of using his music to accentuate every situation substantially.

Free Solo is an exceptional piece of work that does an amazing job of not only showcasing Honnold's incredible athleticism, but the insane amount of danger he puts himself in just to say he was able to do it. .
