Historical dramas are kinda dry and boring, huh? Especially set in colonial times. They weren't fun for anyone. The directorial debut of Robert Eggers begins as a drama about a family struggling to get by during the early days of the United States, as famine and trauma begin to tear them apart.

Slowly it becomes clear the rising tensions and fraying minds aren't just being caused by the extreme situation, but an ethereal presence from within the woods is corrupting their very natures...
