20 Terrible Oscar Nominations From The Past Ten Years - Corrected

10. Jojo Rabbit's Nominations For Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay And Best Editing

Bohemian Rhapsody Oscar
Fox Searchlight

Jojo Rabbit getting so many nominations is easily the worst thing about the 2020 line-up.. A tone-deaf, messy and overall silly stab at a satire, Jojo Rabbit is a noble failure thanks to the great acting and directing, as well as its good intentions, but it's still a failure nonetheless. It's certainly not among the year's best films, while its nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Editing are pretty ridiculous.

Corrected:

For Best Picture, Booksmart is the year's finest comedy and one of the year's best films full-stop, so that would've been a hell of a lot more deserving than Jojo Rabbit, while Stephen Merchant's unexpectedly delightful and hilarious screenplay for the heart-warming British comedy Fighting With My Family was, even though it's about as far from typical Oscar material as it gets, genuinely deserving of a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.

As for editing, the frantic, intense and anxiety-inducing editing for the Safdie Brothers' superb Uncut Gems was to die for and maybe even the best achievement in film editing this year, so why on earth wasn't it nominated over this?
