20 Terrible Razzie Mistakes - Corrected
18. Waterworld - Worst Picture And Worst Director
Waterworld isn't the stinker you've heard it is. It's not that great, but it's got a fair amount of imagination and entertainment value, so this felt like another example of the Razzies picking on what was popular to trash. There was a lot of toxic buzz around the time of Waterworld and this is most likely what led to this being a major Razzie contender.
Worst Actor (Kevin Costner) and the film's win for Worst Supporting Actor (Dennis Hopper) feel more acceptable since the acting in this movie is far from great and Costner is surprisingly dull and po-faced considering he's playing a mutant fish-man who's introduced drinking his own urine, but Worst Picture and Worst Director (Kevin Reynolds) were a step too far.
Corrected:
These nods should've gone to the train-wreck that is Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, which is still the worst Halloween film ever made (yes, it's even worse than 2002's Halloween: Resurrection), but it got completely ignored and that's probably because it was more obscure. Just like the Oscars, the Razzies always go for whatever's high-profile and this always leads to unfair nominations.
