20 Terrible Razzie Mistakes - Corrected

16. Independence Day: Resurgence - Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Supporting Actress, Worst Sequel And Worst Screenplay

Penguin Batman Returns
20th Century Fox

Hello again to the 2017 ceremony.

Independence Day: Resurgence is undeniably weak, but it's OK as opposed to bad and is often a perfectly entertaining action film, while Jeff Goldblum is great in it, so it being so widely nominated was another bit of cynical pandering on the Razzies' part.

It wasn't one of the year's worst films and none of the other nominations were really justified either. In particular, Sela Ward's Razzie nomination for her straightforward, perfectly OK performance as President Elizabeth Lanford was beyond a joke. The only Razzie-worthy thing here was Liam Hemsworth's bland lead performance, yet he wasn't even nominated.

Corrected:

In the context of these five nominations, Resurgence should've been completely shut out.

The dreadful, yet heavily under-nominated Suicide Squad definitely should've been nominated for Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel and especially Worst Supporting Actress for Cara Delevinge's ghastly performance as the film's villain, Enchantress. Unfortunately, it was only been nominated for Worst Supporting Actor (Jared Leto, which was hardly a Razzie-worthy performance) and Worst Screenplay.

As for Worst Screenplay, the shockingly awful and morally repugnant slice of racist garbage that was London has Fallen should've replaced Resurgence.
