20 Things You Didn't Know About Christopher Nolan

16. Steven Soderbergh Got Him Insomnia

Not literally: after the surprise cult hit of Memento Nolan was being courted by big Hollywood studios for his first major film, but even then he couldn't get a meeting with Warner Bros over their planned remake of Norwegian crime thriller Insomnia. In fact the only reason he did was because hotshot director Soderbergh intervened, attaching himself and George Clooney as executive producers and telling them "You€™re insane if you don€™t meet with this guy." Suppose he could've caused Nolan sleepless nights as well; no official word on that.

15. He Has Good Taste In Everything

Not only does Nolan have a predictably good taste in films - listing among his favourites Blade Runner, Chinatown, Lawrence Of Arabia, and anything by Stanley Kubrick - but he's also got a pretty nifty ear for music too. A huge Radiohead fan from way back, he wanted to include the band's song Paranoid Android over the credits of Memento, but found that the licensing rights would be too great for his low-budget film. Which is a shame.
