20 Things Hidden In Fight Club You Totally Missed

3. Baby Boomer Beetle

When Project Mayhem was first announced to the Narrator, he showed a great deal of resistance. However, he eventually gets into the swing of it. He joins in with some petty vandalism – well, petty in the sense that this one doesn’t involve blowing up buildings.

The scene shows the duo committing various deviant acts, one of which involves them chatting casually as they stroll down a street smashing up cars.

However, the last car they pass evokes a more volatile reaction, stopping their conversation as Norton’s character spits on it and they both go to town with their bats. If you ever watched the scene and wondered why they’re singling this car out, it’s because it’s a new VW Beetle.

This is significant, as this car is synonymous with the Baby Boomer generation which birthed yuppies and hippies and started the marketing schemes which are portrayed everywhere in the film.
