20 Things You Didn’t Know About Quantum Of Solace (2008)

Although the film ends with James Bond finding his "quantum of solace" over his ill-fated relationship with Vesper Lynd, a further scene would have marked the film's finale.

Double-0 Seven was to interrupt a meeting between Quantum operative and Prime Ministerial adviser, Guy Haines (Paul Ritter) and Mr White, in which White attempted to kill Haines for outliving his usefulness. Instead, "Bond, James Bond" apprehended Haines and shot White as part of the film’s ending gun barrel sequence.

The scene was shot on location in London on 14th April 2008, but was cut in favour of a more traditional gun barrel sequence as it was felt that Bond’s killing of White and apprehension of Haines would have forced Bond 23 to become a further sequel to Casino Royale.

Whilst the filmmakers left it open for this finale to be used as the pre-credits sequence of Bond 23, it was subsequently dropped in favour of an original storyline, particularly after Jesper Christensen made negative comments about the quality of both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. The deleted scene has never been widely released and was rendered obsolete by Christensen’s return in SPECTRE.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
