20 Things You Didn’t Know About Quantum Of Solace (2008)

9. “You Idiot! Take Me Back!” “You Know, Maybe I’ll Do That Later!”

James Bond commandeers a fishing boat in Kings Quay, Port-au-Prince that was actually an aluminium jet boat built by Riddle Marine, Inc. of Lewiston, Idaho, which previously built the Q Boat for The World Is Not Enough (1999). After being shipped to Colón for filming, the boat - named Gardien des Étoiles (“guardian of the stars” in French) - was beaten to make it look like a local boat.

Quantum of Solace is also the last Bond film (to date) to use watercraft supplied by Sunseeker International Ltd of Poole, Dorset, but features the most.

In The World Is Not Enough, The Cigar Girl (Maria Grazia Cucinotta) piloted a Sunseeker Superhawk 34 down the Thames after attacking MI6 and Jinx (Halle Berry) climbed aboard a Sunseeker Superhawk 48 in Cuba in Die Another Day. Le Chiffre resided aboard a Sunseeker Predator 108 and a Sunseeker XS2000 cruised past when James Bond (Daniel Craig) arrived in The Bahamas in Casino Royale.

In Quantum of Solace, General Medrano comes ashore from his Sunseeker 37 Metre Yacht M4 in a Sunseeker Superhawk 43 and James Bond later travels to René Mathis’s (Giancarlo Giannini’s) home in Talamone, Italy onboard a vintage Sunseeker Sovereign 17 captained by the company’s then-managing director, Robert Braithwaite, CBE DL.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
