20 Things You Didn’t Know About Quantum Of Solace (2008)

18. Follow That Ka!

Quantum Of Solace
MGM/Columbia Pictures

Production designer, Dennis Gassner worked with Ford Motor Company to produce the golden Greene Planet electric Ford Ka that Camille drives in Port-au-Prince. However, the vehicle was built in a hurry and was still unfinished when filming began.

It had a mock-up of a Ford Ka engine grille, whilst the wing mirrors and interior electrics did not function. Its glove box door could not be opened and gold paint flaked off of the interior door handles as they were unfinished. Additionally, the car’s rear windows were glued in place so that they could easily be removed to assist with filming inside the Ka.

Nevertheless, the logos of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric and Greene Planet that featured on the bonnet, boot, and side of the car leant an air of authenticity to the unfinished vehicle.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
