20 Things You Didn’t Know About The Living Daylights (1987)

It was an in-joke for Double-0 Four and Double-0 Two (Glyn Baker) to resemble George Lazenby and Roger Moore, but the filmmakers considered it more dramatic to conceal the agents’ faces before revealing who was playing James Bond on the Rock of Gibraltar.

Stuntman, B.J. Worth doubled for Timothy Dalton during the skydive from M’s Lockheed Hercules C-130 cargo plane, supported by Dan O’Brien and Jake Lombard, and filmed by Tom Sanders. Worth and second unit director, Arthur Wooster felt that the initial skydive could be more cinematic and, due to the running costs of the Hercules, a further jump was mounted from a helicopter instead with ground crews filming the landings.

Stuntman, Terry Forrestal was cast as Double-0 Four, but Arthur Wooster disliked his acting as the ill-fated agent, so he was replaced by Frederick Warder, who placed his baby in a neighbour’s care, left a note for his wife, and flew out to Gibraltar.

Aside from filming dangerous stunts on the Rock (worrying the producers), Timothy Dalton was also photographed meeting Royal Artillery Captain James Bond of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment.

Additionally, the Soviet Union sent a trawler to investigate why the art department was modifying the Gibraltarian radar facilities!

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
