20 Things You Didn't Know About 2021's Oscar Nominees
14. Glenn Close Is The Third Actor To Receive Oscar & Razzie Nods For One Performance - Hillbilly Elegy
To the bafflement of many, Glenn Close received a Best Supporting Actress nod for her performance as Mamaw in Hillbilly Elegy.
Though Close certainly isn't bad in the film, Ron Howard's stale drama doesn't give the veteran actress nearly enough to sink her teeth into, ensuring her performance is scarcely less superficial than the rest of the movie.
Close's nomination earned her a rare distinction, though, of being only the third actor in history to receive both an Oscar and Razzie nomination for the very same performance, following James Coco in 1981's Only When I Laugh and Amy Irving in 1983's Yentl.
While neither Coco nor Irving won awards from any of their nominations, Close could certainly end up winning a career Oscar for Hillbilly Elegy, and Razzie voters may well end up voting for her out of spite.
