20 Things You Didn't Know About A View To A Kill (1985)

1. Number One, Mr. Bond

Bond songs are a staple of the franchise and, as weak as some consider Moore’s final Bond film to be, Duran Duran’s A View to a Kill is deemed to be one of the best Bond songs. It fits in well with the-then aim of making this Double-0 Seven feature appeal to younger viewers.

The song reached number one in the U.S. charts, but peaked at number two in the U.K.. It is the only Bond song to reach the number one spot in the States, due no doubt to the wise decision to work alongside a 1980s pop sensation. Ironically, the group's bassist, John Taylor got the group the gig by drunkenly asking Cubby Broccoli when someone decent was going to sing the opening theme, unknowingly impressing the Bond producer in the process!

The film’s composer, John Barry confirmed that working with Duran Duran was one of his favourite musical collaborations.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
