20 Things You Didn't Know About A View To A Kill (1985)

18. A Long Way Down

A View To A Kill
MGM/UA

Arguably, Christopher Walken’s finest moment as Max Zorin is when the villain realises that he is doomed.

Losing his grip on one of the massive cables of the Golden Gate Bridge, Zorin chuckles to himself wryly just before he slips off, plunging into San Francisco Bay far below.

However, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors was very concerned that seeing anyone fall off the Bridge in a film - let alone a Bond film - might encourage copycat suicides and therefore forbade the filmmakers from showing anyone falling from the Bridge.

Zorin’s death was therefore created through the use of optical effects so that he could plunge to his death in the Bay and not actually fall from the Bridge.

The City of San Francisco has since been developing a net to prevent people from leaping off of the Bridge.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
